A Peek at My Week

Hi everyone, sorry I have not been around much but my first full week of school and my own kids extra-curricular activities have kept me too busy this week to blog. I wanted to take a minute today (you know between laundry and groceries and planning and...) to link up with Jennifer at Mrs. Laffin's Laughings for her linky...

On Monday (and hopefully only Monday) we are going to finish up our All About Me books from Joanne at Head Over Heels for Teaching. I always forget how slow students work at the beginning of the year. It is so hard - because I want them done for our Open House Tuesday night but I also want them to do a good job, sigh. I will post pictures later in the week of some of their work - some of their responses - too cute. One little girl asked me what you call the food dish with noodles and sausage and broccoli and peppers and I had no clue, I ran into her mom and the dish has no name, my little student devastated - how can she fill it in!!!

Tuesday is our Open House and I am debating if I will have time to fit an art activity based on this art activity from Mrs. T's First Grade Class ...

to go on our bulletin board in the hallway. Right now the bulletin board just has their names on funky foam pieces that look like the Pow and Crash word bubbles from comics and we will be adding some writing to it for Open House but....I am going to do this activity this week - just wondering if we can get it done and up in time!! If not - move that idea to Thursday :)

Last year I used the free PPT presentation from Ladybug Teacher Files to run in my room while I was volunteering at the food tables just in case any parents stopped by and I could not talk to them. I think I will be using it again this year - it is just so cute - I just need to find a few minutes to add/update the info :)

This week we will be using this book

to make connections. I will be using the making connections portion of Nicole Shelby's Interactive Notebook as the first entry in our Reading Notebooks. There are so many great ideas online for this book so we will be using it for the rest of the week for sure. On Friday we will be using the book to explore the theme or message of the book before we do our bucket filling!!

Thursday morning we have our first field trip. You know how sometimes you sign up for field trips at the end of the year for the following year and it seems like a really good idea at the time - yup, that is what I did and now I am going on a trip the second full week of school :).

Throw in a little word study, place value math and social studies and there you have our week!

  6. I know what you mean about students moving so S..L..O..W at the beginning of the year. Oh my, it is killing me sometimes!

I'm amazed at your braveness to go on a field trip this early in the year. We tend to save ours for the spring, but then it feels like we are going on one every other week and we can't get things finished up.

Have a great week & thanks for linking up!

  8. My 3rds are super slow and my 4ths feel speedy in comparison! I feel like I'm always having to have something ready for them to do while my slower 3rds catch up! I think it'll get better soon once all the workshops are up and running!

I used Bad Case of Stripes and Ladybug's ppt this week too! Haha.
