Warning - this post has no educational value - okay I threw something in at the very end that you could use in your classroom - but 98% of this post is not educational.
I am linking up with my bloggy friend Holly (hoping she doesn't kick me out of her party) for her Tried it Tuesday Linky. Be sure to stop by and check out all the awesome things people are trying in their classroom (or living room!).
Every where in teaching blog land people are sharing their goals for the summer and for next year (I did mine yesterday) and I have been reading them like crazy - I like reading what others hope to do, but I have not seen one person mention watching T.V. Am I the only teacher that is looking forward to watching T.V. Every summer my husband and I pick a series or 2 and watch entire seasons on DVD. This summer we are going to watch Breaking Bad - I don't know how we missed watching this series, we watch every other AMC series (and most of the HBO ones too!). I can't wait to get started on this series, I have heard so many great things.
Here are 3 series that I tried and loved and recommend to you!
Homeland - we have only watched Season 1 so far and are eagerly awaiting Season 2 to be released on DVD. Love, love, love the acting in this series!
What are you watching this summer? Do you have any suggestions for me (and my husband)?
If you read this far I do have a little teaching idea for you. It is using t.v. or movie clips as a prompt for a math inquiry lesson. You could use this clip from Big Bang Theory to teach about combinations. How many combinations are there in their version or Rock, Paper, Scissors.

I definitely plan on doing some TV watching this summer! Thanks for the series suggestions! I have a summer reading list linky party going on at my blog.....if you plan on doing some reading as well :)

FabandFunin4th!
Hi! I love watching series too. Since my hubby and I have little people we tend to enjoy watching Netflix because then we can watch when we have put the kids down to bed, since it isn't always the same time...little people have many needs. LOL. Anyways, if you haven't checked it out, you really need to watch Justified with Timothy Olyphant. The first episode wasn't fantastic, but you have to keep going...it's fantastic! I love Timothy..he's so funny in this series. I have watched the first two series and can't wait for the third!

We have very similar tastes! Unfortunately, I have only partially watched all of those show's seasons...but that is what the summer is for right? Gotta love Netflix! Currently I am catching up on Mad Men. That show is on past my bedtime for the school year!

Breaking Bad is awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI love Homeland as well.
We're looking forward to the new season of Breaking Bad, True Blood, Dexter and Sons of Anarchy.
Right now we're watching Game of Thrones.
We will definitely be doing some TV watching. We love Royal Pains and Burn Notice, which both have new episodes in June. In July, we will be watching Big Brother 3 times a week.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Big Bang Theory! Sometimes my husband thinks I am a female version of Sheldon. (Not quite!)

I love Big Bang Theory and Downton! Other shows we love are The Walking Dead (yes, I do love the Zombies-I blame my husband,) Burn Notice, Castle, and we are currently working through Numb3rs-"old" school, but we never watched it when it was on TV.
ReplyDeleteHunter's Tales from Teaching
I would suggest The Wire from HBO. It might be one of the best series ever and one of the seasons focuses on inner city public school kids--it is incredible and heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteThe other would be Friday Night Lights, but skip season two because it mas so dumb. Every other season is really really good.

Head Over Heels For Teaching
Oh yeah!! I love this! My guilty pleasure started last night for the summer (The Bachelorette!). I also LOVE SYTYCD (So You Think You Can Dance). I have heard so many good things about Downtown Abbey but then one of my friends told me that the end is so disappointing that I don't know if I dare start it! Thanks for such a fun Tried It:)
